BOHEMIA, NY – May 2024 -- North Atlantic Industries (NAI) is pleased to announce its support of Stratolaunch, marking the successful test flight of the Talon-A vehicle, controlled by NAI’s NIU3A, serving as the Flight Control Computer. NAI’s role on this program underscores a significant leap in aerospace technology, showcasing the Talon-A’s cutting-edge capabilities while harnessing the power of COTS computing hardware.
"The success of the Talon-A exemplifies the power of modular COTS hardware to accelerate advanced capabilities including hypersonic systems," remarked Lino Massafra, VP of Sales, and Marketing at NAI.
Engineered to meet the stringent demands of aerospace applications, the NIU3A functions as a compact, rugged, and energy-efficient processing and multifunction I/O system, ensuring unwavering performance even in the harshest environments. Equipped with Dual or Quad Core ARM Cortex-A53 processors running Wind River VxWorks 7 RTOS, the NIU3A integrates customer software applications while managing I/O and communications. These features helped the NAI unit to serve the Talon-A mission and underscore NAI's commitment to helping its customers advance aerospace technology.
Dr. Zachary Krevor, CEO of Stratolaunch, acknowledged the collaborative effort and product capability that led to the achievement of Talon-A reaching high supersonic speeds approaching Mach 5, and the invaluable data collected for future flight risk mitigation. "We appreciate the efforts of NAI and value the partnership of a company who is agile, responsive, and understands how to deliver quality flight hardware." Dr. Krevor said.
